The internal light turns on when it comes into contact with water and turns off when the duck is removed. The battery life of the "Glow-in-the-Duck" is approximately 45 hours, which is equivalent to 180 fifteen-minute baths! All ducks contain x3 LR44 (AG13) button cell batteries and color changing LEDs. The batteries are accessible via a small hatch sealed at the bottom of the duck. Batteries are replaceable on most models.
